Ember & Oak was born from a simple belief: great food should feel personal. Chef Marcus Reid spent 12 years in Michelin-starred kitchens before returning home to open a place where craft and community could coexist on one plate.

We source directly from Illinois farms, change our menu with the seasons, and cook over real wood fire — because shortcuts have no place here.

Marcus Reid
Executive Chef & Co-Founder

Marcus trained under two Michelin-starred chefs in Lyon before spending five years as sous chef at a landmark New York tasting room. In 2018, he returned to his hometown of Chicago with one goal: to cook food that felt honest.

"I want every plate to taste like someone who loves food made it — not a kitchen running on autopilot. That's the standard we hold ourselves to every night."
